The Pendelbahn Pilatus is a modern cable car that connects the Pilatus summit in Switzerland with the Kriens valley station. The cable car was opened in 2012 and is considered one of the steepest funiculars in the world. The Pilatus aerial tramway is 2.8 kilometers long in total, covering a difference in altitude of almost 1,600 meters. The ride takes around 30 minutes and offers passengers spectacular views of the surrounding mountain landscape. The bottom station of the Pendelbahn Pilatus is located in Kriens, a suburb of Lucerne. From there, the cable car travels over the Pilatus side Fräkmüntegg to the Pilatus summit. Once at the summit, passengers can visit the viewing platforms and enjoy the view over the Alps. Hiking and other activities are also possible on the summit.
